Warfighter WW2 - British Landing Tactics Exercise

A squad from the London Fog Regiment was tasked with clearing a channel off the beach for the follow on forces. In reality this was an exercise testing the Brits Shore Invasion tactics.

The run in aboard one of the Yank’s Higgins boat was a bit dodgy (all soldiers suffer a suppression)

The Captain’s Leadership drove the squad off the boat and into a Boiling Surf and the team machine gunner forced the enemy spotter to ground while the rest detected a sniper and peppered him with suppressing fire. An MG42 opened up and wounded our MG trooper.

The Boiling Surf battered the team as the advanced (after rolling all suffered an opening suppression).

The Captain rushed forward and dropped two PIAT rounds on the MG42.

The rest advanced onto the Deadly Beach zone blasting away at the spotter and sniper, again suppressing those enemies.

Now the final push began. Rushing the Recon objective, members found a cache of enemy grenades (Objective text) and began lobbing them at the enemy. Corporal fired a rifle grenade into the MG42 (with Blast) position wiping it out.

At close range the mopping began in earnest.
As the last enemy position was cleared, the squad consolidated at the top of the dunes and awaited the follow on force.

The beach was cleared, and it was generally a cake walk. The expensive PS was well worth the cost. The combo of PIATs, Rifle Grenade and the objective providing each entrant 2 grenades made this a very achievable mission.

Warfighter: Into the Frying Pan

Castle Frankenstein Mission 2
Sgt Charlie McD listened as the mission brief droned on. The documents he’d retrieved with the Maquis’ help had been decoded and translated. Jerry had been working on some strange crap in the Fortress. Something called the Thule Society were the main honchos behind Jerry’s activity.

Some tightly wound OSS Major was ordering us out on another raid. At least this time he’d have some Joes with him for support. Of course the resistance dame Rika wanted back in too. Her country I guess...

Charlie’s attention drifted to the new tin man suit he was getting for the mission. Supposedly even better than his last one. He hoped it burned less fuel! He feared being busted back to Private if he lost this one.

Charlie’s attention snapped back when he heard the Major yell “Move your ass! NOW!”

The Brass was not happy that we failed to clear out the Fortress, and ordered us back in to complete the job.

We made our way to the jump off point. No surprise to us, Jerry had funneled in reinforcements. Elite bastards too. Getting off the dime was a tough row.

Charlie tested out his new rocket launcher. A nice touch, but a tad underwhelming too. He’d hoped for a bigger blast zone than it packed.

Charlie and Rika used their prior experiences to hold of the enemy while the newbies began pushing deeper into the complex.

A stray round punched a hole in a drum above Pvt Scott. Whatever the hell was in there poured on Scott. Terror gripped the newcomers as the skin melted from his face. Fortunately death quickly claimed him (failed Chemical roll)(hmmm 1 health troopers may have been a poor choice).

Charlie used his braced MG to wear down the enemy. Progress is slow.

Charlie’s firepower was making him the target of choice. It was all that permitted the squad to make any progress. It’s cost was that Jerry had effectively cornered the main threat to the jump off point.

He used his rockets to prevent harassing forces and an enemy machine guns from pressuring the clock.

Rika used her lone grenade on a rifle team. The forward element lacked sufficient firepower to make consistent progress towards the objective. This accelerated the clock countdown.

A wrong turn saw Rika lead the team into a laboratory. Loaded with bad men. Very bad men. A savage burst hit Pvt G Orwell. 2 wounds and he went down. (Even a 3 wound Squad soldier couldn’t make it in Frankenstein’s Fortress)

With time against them, Rika began to fallback towards Firebase Charlie. Sapphire took a burst on her way out. She was able to lash out with 3 EKIAs before succumbing to her wounds. ( her Sacrifice  skill was the biggest contribution made during the mission).

With only one turn remaining, Charlie and Rika exited the mission. Major Fail.

AAR
Charlie and the Mech gobble up a ton of the available RPs. Trying to mix in some Maquis for flavor and shifting to all Elite Hostiles was too much. This team really had no chance at succeeding.

Next, the three of us will move onto a different Objective. Probably keep Rika on the team, but with a weapon having range 1 capabilities. We ran lite on cards to as most needed discards to support movement. On this mission, every turn a location wasn’t played advanced the turn marker. Add that to a lack of firepower and a stream of harassing forces occasionally costing a turn marker advance, and the hole we dug got deeper and deeper.

Since we enjoy connecting missions, we decide to save what we could. Being Rika and Charlie.

Next time we’ll look for maybe having 3 player Soldiers with some better gear. And helmets. And candy bars. And canteens. Did we mention grenades. Lots of grenades.

Enjoy your games fellow WarFighters!

Cruel Seas: Vosper Ambush

Vosper Ambush

As dusk approaches, three British Vosper MTBs
idle hoping to pounce on any enemy merchant ship
daring to move before full darkness sets in.

The Germans having pushed back the last Allied fighters trying to straffe
the port decide it is safe to move. The Allies rarely try both air and sea
when visibility is limited. Two E-Boats are set to escort the coastal fuel
ship on its resupply run.

The British see the enemy breaking from port and fire up there engines.
The commander of the lead boat say “Tally ho boys!” and speeds toward
the Germans while putting two fish in the water.

The closest E-Boat moves to screen and puts fire on the Vospers

One torpedo hits and the other misses. Being under heavy fire the guns miss
but the fuel ship definitely felt the torpedo hit.

A Vosper disintegrates under E-Boat fire but the crew makes it out.
“Call in survivors in the water”

The E-Boats high speed has carried them wide of the fight. The two remaining
British boats swarm the fuel ship pouring in fire.

Boom! The fuel ship goes up in flame and begins to rapidly sink.

Conclusion

This was our first game of Cruel Seas. We definitely enjoyed the game. It
Is an easy game to pick up and provides the type of fun only a good dice
chucker can. We all agreed that a larger playing area would better but the
starter set definitely includes everything needed to play.

We greatly appreciate your visits to our blog. If you see fit comments and

Codename Valhalla - Warfighter WW2

Warfighter WW2 Europe : Codename Valhalla

Finally, unsere Leader has approved release of Wunderwaffe Z.

The Laboratories of Valhalla have returned Sgt Mayer, Corporal Fischer,
and Privates Neumann and Koch to service.

The first action for Das Untote Korps will be to recover one of the
Projekt Valhalla scientists from Canadian Commandos who parachuted
into our territory. The Scientist must be recovered or eliminated before
the Commandos reach their Nordsee extraction point near Cuxhaven.

As the mission begins, an equally lucky/unlucky draw indicates the
Canadians have established a mortar base at the objective.

Mayer and Fischer push the squad forward, encountering no initial enemies.
An enemy picket snipes at Sgt Mayer, but all the Untote are Fearless, and
press on. The Canadian is confused, as he swore several of his rounds hit or
only nearly missed the German leader. And their rigid gait seemed odd.

Well it’s on now. The Commandos are alerted to the Germans. A massive
firefight ensues. Sgt Mayer Halts the advance so the squad can clear out the
Commandos. The commandos struggle with trying to pin down these German
troops. They’ve never encountered such fearless troops. They did score direct
hits on Private Koch, but Sgt Mayer had some trick in his hand of cards to
protect his charges from such actualities.

Mayer used grenades to force many of the Canadians to ground. This allowed
him and Koch, who was proving quite the marksman at close range, to press on.
Yet more Commandos kept arriving, desperately trying to stall our advance.
And it was working. Out of grenades, Mayer began to doubt that his first
assignment would end in success.

The squad became bogged down in a running firefight. These Commandos were
well trained. Fischer was pinned well behind the rest, and the Privates were not
able to generate enough fire support to clear out Canadians faster than they
reinforced. Why was the squad not issued one of Hitler’s buzzsaws? Being unafraid
of dying again was not enough to defeat a determined enemy. The Commandos
were confused by our resilience, but did not fear us.

Sgt Mayer leapt forward, determined to reach his objective. Two bounds later, he
was engaging the Canadians as rafts from a sub were heading towards shore.

Private Koch did his best to move forward and support his Sgt. Meanwhile,
Cpl Fischer finally was able to advance, but half the squad was too separated to
help complete the mission. Too many Commandos, too too many.....

Cpl Fischer had eliminated the Commandos who had been driving the timetable
forward at double speed. This gave some hope to their UpFront comrades.

Hope rose as Sgt Mayer recognized that being strung out was working to his
advantage. Commando reinforcements were appearing and moving towards
Cpl Fischer and Pvt Neumann. Missing that Koch and Mayer were in amongst
their own forces. Their fire not being distinguished from their own.

This allowed them to momentarily clear out the LZ, and smuggle the scientist
into the darkness and escape. Fischer and Neumann, totally looking the part,
laid down dead, until the Canadians evacuated the beach. Without their prize.

Aftermath
The first engagement with Das Untote was a qualified success. While being
Fearless was helpful, the team lacked enough firepower to maintain a good pace.
Time almost failed this mission.

Great fun playing a mission with Zombie Soldiers. I need more practice with
them to understand Equipment and skill requirements to become a more effective
force. I may needed to merge in some Japanese undead in order to build a strong
team. Only having 8 Soldiers truly left me wishing for more. Maybe we’ll gen up
some of our own using the great support from the group posting resources on BGG.

Jungle Patrol - Warfighter PTO

Warfighter PTO

Our copy of Warfighter PTO arrived and we decided to play
a learn your enemy game before we build our campaign

Jungle Patrol

We selected the Jungle Patrol mission which gave us 62 RP
to build our Marine force. We selected 2 Player Soldier (PS)
and two squad soldiers. Our patrol had 6 grenades, 3 rifles,
and a BAR.

Our team deploys for jump off

We advance into the Native Gardens and are struck hard by two
stout units. After hard fighting and tossing a few grenades we clear
the garden. We lack good terrain cards so spend a few turns hoping
for something good but in the end to have any hope of succeeding
in our mission we advance onto the beach.

The beach is a brutal fight and even expending all of our remaining
grenades we are barely holding on. One of our Player Soldiers is
on the jump off point trying to deal with Ambushers. After several
turns of back and forth we have eliminated most of the beach forces
as well as the Ambushers. We did lose one of our Squad Soldiers

Time is running out so we decided to risk pressing onto the Native Village

From the frying pan into the fire. We are now strung out and in
trouble. We failed to take out the Kamikaze and in fact didn’t fear
him enough. He ran in a took a Player Soldier out with him in the
Native Garden. The others survived the turn a retires from the mission

We rolled and amazing both Player Soldiers we good to return to duty,
one Squad Soldier was KIA, and the last was a medical discharge

Conclusion

The Japanese were a brutal foe and the terrain was unforgiving.
We definitely accomplished learning more about what we want
in a force. Definitely load up on grenades and canteens. We should
have game one of our campaign up soon.

Warfighter is one of our favorite games and can be enjoyed solo
or cooperative. We greatly appreciate you reading our post and if
so inclined we love comments and follows.

Hell’s Beach June 6, 1944

June 6, 1944 - Day of Destiny

Elements of the Big Red One have hit the beach.

The Germans have remanned their defenses and opened up on the Americans. Machine gun
fire from the Bunker and farm exacted a heavy toll.

The Americans make a push off the beaches. German machine guns and mortar rounds
 explode
all around the attackers. The villages and farms are strongly garrisoned. The heavy volume of
American fire is largely ineffective.

The American Platoon Leaders finally remember what they read in the field manual about Assaults.
With renewed vigor, the American troops quickly destroy the Tiger tank that was holding the village
of Harlet, even as two other platoons swarm through Basile sur Mer, clobbering the German
defenders. The Breakout is on now.

Two P47 thunderbolts began plastering the Germans waiting inland. Unfortunately, as was the
case with the 5 incher Support from off shore Destroyers, their bombing runs miss the mark.

Failure to make use of Close Assaults early in the battle has cost the Americans too much time
and material. The order goes out to hold in place and await reinforcements.

The Germans have gained an expensive tactical victory. Their respite will not last long.
Uncle Sam has a long arm and packs a mean punch.....

This was a replay of Hell’s Beach from Columbia Games Combat Infantry.

Thanks for stopping by and if you are inclined please follow to see more exciting
replays and reviews.

German FJ Company versus Soviet Light Tank Company

Situation
Soviet Union Winter 1941
The German drive into Russia had slowed with the onset of a harsh winter.
Soviet forces had also begun localized counterattacks as the Germans
supply lines stretch to the breaking point.

Mission
The German FJs were surprised to see the Soviet infantry and tanks
appearing in force to their front. Only half of their force was in place.
The envelopment was developing rapidly but the entire field is muddy
forcing the Soviet tanks to stay on the roads.

Only the 10.5 mortars and one FJ platoon with attached HMGs were
in place.

The Luftwaffe swoops to to help stop the T26's

The mighty KV bogs trying to hurry down the road towards the exposed
flank.

PaK 36s ambush the T26s on the right flank

The Soviet infantry quits the field after sustain fire from infantry and
HMGs but the Soviet tanks are still baring down on all roads.

The Pak 36s on the right are destroyed and the ones on the left are about
to eat lots lead and are about to be destroyed. The KV is back on the
move.

The Luftwaffe braves heavy AA and destroys the KV

Soviet tanks including flame tanks engage the last reinforcement platoon.
The FJs assault the tanks and drive them back but only bag one tank. The
FJs fall on the next turn and the Soviets own the day.

Result
The game was a really fun 4-3 victory for the Soviets. It was fun as both
sides were dishing out destruction. In the end, my Crete list FJs didn't
have enough AT assets to carry the day. I had several air attacks chased
off by AA so had the struck home it might have gone 4-3 the other way.
Many thanks to Kevin for a game played in the right spirit and we both
had fun. Early War tends to always be fun in my book.

We were playing v3 but since I really enjoy Team Yankee I'm looking
forward to v4 escalation event coming soon. Thanks for visiting and please
