Cherry Blossoms and Zombies!

Cherry blossoms and zombies

"Is everyone alright?" “Amy?”
"The Pilot didn't make it. A tree branch came thru the cockpit."

"Damn. Amy, Doug, Wanda, take care of the pilot and then gather our packs. Ned, check the weapons. Josh and I will scout the surroundings."

The pilot had done a fantastic job in getting us from F’d SF, to the outskirts of DC. Refueling at remote airfields had meant only a few minor encounters. But had eaten into our ammo supply.

Our time on the yacht had ended, courtesy of a lack of parts. While basing out of Alcatraz, we picked up a Civil Defense broadcast which has led us here. It made sense. There must have been plenty of security and military in the area. The Hope for a sanctuary was impossible to ignore.

"Ned, how is it looking?"
"Damn Phil. That first tree we grazed a mile back ripped the belly out of the plane. Our gear is history!"

"Alright. Spilled Milk. We've been here before. Grab what you can. The outskirts are about a klick away. When we get there, spread out and start searching. Priority is weapons. Check? Check. Let’s move out.”

As planned, the team entered the town from several side streets. Initially all seemed quiet, save for sounds of battle coming from the White House area.

Wanda saw an APC straddling the intersection and rushed towards it having heard people inside.  The others began entering various shops, hoping to find fellow survivors and weapons.

Damn. The area was crazy with baddies. For support, the group began to pair up. We needed to have each other’s back.

Things were getting hairy. Wanda was about to be overwhelmed. Her Friends rushed to stem the tide.

Amy entered the remains of an Eckerd Drugs, just in time to help save the pharmacist from several zombies. She escorted him out, he thanked her and said he needed to see if his family was safe, and took off down the street.

Amy wanted to know why Phil was Smiling. “Kid, you realize you just saved that P.I. dude from Hawaii!” “ Or his long lost twin….”

Blushing, Amy headed into the next store, hoping there’d be some undead she could ‘vent’ on.

On the other side of Main Street, Josh was surprised to discover a couple young kids hiding in the rubble.

Knowing he couldn’t leave them, he scooped them up and went to find the others. Josh was desperate to pawn these squids off on one of the others. After all, he prided himself on his Lone Wolf image.

Something was up at the far end of the block. Too much noise for an empty building. Having rearmed with discoveries, they all began to pick and weave towards a Diner. Out maneuvering zeds more important than ending them. The sun had set, and a tough job was made worse. The dark had everyone on edge. What you can’t see, can hurt you.

They’d spent too much time searching, the streets were flooding with zombies. A moonless night. Only occasional groans from the dead to tweak our nerves. Soon a flood would wash over the group.

Wanda and Amy broke into the sealed up Diner. Ned joined in.

Once the trash was taken out, Amy discovered yet another survivor, locked in a back room. And when Josh entered the Diner, his two charges screamed with joy, seeing their mom.

The team threw up a hasty barricade, hoping to slow the horde. Then exited the only way open, out the back service door, a mile closer to the sounds of war coming from the White House.

They needed to gain some separation from the horde and find a safe haven to wait out the night.

To be continued…..

Debrief:
Our first Zombicide 2E game. We were skeptical about changes being made to one of our favorite systems. However, we are liking these changes. And the Campaign mode is fun. Although, we only gained 1 XP per survivor. So extra benefits will have to wait. Four of the six characters suffered wounds. We really liked the day/night, companions, and especially the story cards for the mission.
We are borrowing ideas from other systems for handling wounds. After the mission, any wounded characters will make a roll per wound. Results will be things like “just a scratch “ “a heal able wound” “permanent wound” and worse case “turned”.

With so many cool survivor minis to play, having some churn suits us.

Abomination!

“Keep Moving! We didn’t lose the beast”, yelled Louise
“I hope we get a closer look at the helicopter later”, exclaimed Terry
“Maggie check the tents and James get us into those offices”, directed Dan

The team finds more notebooks in the tents and then makes it into the medical
offices just ahead of the swarm. They desperately need to find some fuel and
bottles

We have to buy some time to find equipment and an exit

Laurie find some fuel that will work

They can’t be held back any longer!

We’ve got some big beakers and that will work

Steady let the runners come

Now! Take them out!

With every zombie destroyed between the team and the abomination hoard
Maggie makes her move to stop them

I’ve got the exit hacked open

The team exits the medical offices and hopes to get a chance to review all of the
info they’ve scooped up.

This was a crazy mission from the start. An abomination hit early and we have
to move and search until we could take it out. The timing was critical as with
the abomination in play the exit was at the helicopter but if no abomination was
in play the exit was where we left. Had it appeared again before we could exit
I’m not sure any of the characters would have survived. Zombicide again did
not disappoint with a close run game with many twists a turns.

Zombicide: Follow the Clues

“It wasn’t all BS” exclaimed Dan

For weeks the team had been following the hand drawn map Jose had given them.
The team found Jose bitten and dying but he appreciated the company and kindness
the team showed him.

Jose said he was a scavenger for a camp that was still functioning and trying to
assist folks just outside of a hospital the CDC had taken over. He was cornered
by a swarm and his gun jammed. He managed to slide through but got bit in the
fray.

“Follow this map. I’ve marked key landmarks and known danger points. Don’t
let me change...” said Jose
Maggie gave him a nod and toke care of it about an hour latter.

The team had just cleared a path to the make shift camp so the knew the
situation had gone bad at some point recently.

Let’s search the area and those tents. Maybe we can pick up some bread crumbs
to follow.

We quickly take care of the doors and search both sides. This place must have
fallen recently. Lots of fresh fast zombies!

The team does well keeping the zombies from grouping and quickly searching for
clues to what happened as well as the usual quest for food, weapons, and ammo.

The zombies are swarming....too much noise.

Dan and Louise are feeling like they are about to be cutoff.

Terry gets rushed but hold the gap open for Dan and Louise

Watch the crawlers!

Maggie, James, and Laurie search the tents

“We gotta get this done”, shouts Dan over the roar of battle

“Found some folders and a brief case marked CDC”, yells Louise.
“Let’s find a way out and see if we found anything good”, replies Dan

The team steps into the pocket to determine the best way out

“There! We can go between the tents and get outta here”, directs Maggie
The team moves quickly and starts to put distract between them and the zombies.

Our first go at Rue Morgue was fun and wow nothing tougher than putting out a crawler
for each 1 rolled along with a kill. The Rue Morgue campaign is moving toward a link up
with our Yacht / Rock Campaign. Thanks for reading, following, and commenting.

Zombicide: Running the Rock

Wanda was nervous as she looked back at the team. This was her first mission
to plan and lead. She considers this team family after all the have survived.
“Ok, one more time. We get to the control room and open the exterior door
then everyone but Josh heads out. Josh will let us back in when we signal.
Everyone got it?”, asked Wanda. The team nodded and they were ready. If
the notes they found were correct they should find the replacement parts needed
to use the machine shop again. With the machine shop and salvage they can
get the yacht ready to explore across the bay. They had seen signals from the
coast which were now much less frequent but it had been clear they had been
SOS messages sent by flashlight and mirror.

The team smashes open the path to the control room

With the door open Wanda moves quickly before the zombies can swarm

Doug and Ned notice that opening the front door clearly opened an interior
door too.

The zombies are coming quicker than planned

The prison zombies coming from the rear are endangering the plan

Wanda makes a stand on the pimp car!

Amy links up with Wanda while Phil decides to stay with Josh. Doug and Ned
will join the effort to gather the items outside the front entrance.

“Time to improvise, Amy you and me will go get the last items. Doug and Ned cover
us and keep our retreat path clear” shouted Wanda above the mayhem.

Phil and Josh keep the area clear

Wanda and Amy head toward the block of offices

Zombies are closing from all sides. Amy and Wanda prep to crash the offices while
Ned and Doug work hard at holding the egress open.

Wanda and Amy are forced to escape the other way after grabbing the prize

Doug holds the entrance and Ned takes on the runners

Get those doors open!!!

Ned uses the concrete saw on the Abomination

Amy decides to put our Molotov Cocktail to good use destroying a large part of the
remaining zombies on The Rock

Conclusion
“I feel like I just ran The Rock 10k”, mussed Wanda as she looked through books, notes,
and items they had gathered today. The team was very excited to have survived and
set the table to get the yacht ready to explore the area. As the team sat around decompressing,
Wanda interrupted the small talk,”you’ll never believe what’s in the notebook I scooped
up in the offices says”.
“The secrets of time travel”, joked Josh
“No but almost as good. These notes say the hospital across the bay had a cure they
were about to test!” exclaimed Wanda.
“I guess we know where we are going as soon as we make our repairs”, said Phil
“Looks like we have a hospital to checkout before we look for the source of those
signals we’ve spotted”, added Doug.

Zombicide once again provided a tense close run game. We were lucky to find good
gear quickly. Until next time....Old School Gamers Out
